Heraldik, 1982, Thoroughbred

This dark brown thoroughbred stallion of Slovenian origin stands at 166 cm in a still justifiable narrow stick size.
With 50 rating points, it is at the upper limit of the mid-range for thoroughbred refiners. Otherwise the stallion has excellent shoulder room and a nice neck.
Although the stallion is registered in the German thoroughbred stud book and also has a thoroughbred life number, according to the studbook of the Directory of Thoroughbred Breeding in Cologne, his parentage is not beyond doubt. Specifically, it is the dam sire of the stallion Detvan, sire of the 3rd dam of Heraldik, who apparently does not have an unequivocal parentage.
Since he has been used in breeding since 1996, the first foals have already fallen. These confirm that their father has an above average inheritance.
If you look at the pedigree, you immediately notice the mixture of internationally known sires and German thoroughbred lines. In addition, there are absolutely unknown sires in the maternal part of the parentage.
The lack of modern stallions is particularly remarkable: Nearco can be found, but Nasrullah is absent, as is his three-quarter brother Royal Charger. Northern Dancer does not perform either. Nearco can be found through his lesser-known sons Nimbus and Chief, who neither played a world-shattering role in thoroughbred breeding.
Mahmoud, close relative of Nasrullah about the mother, does not appear either. The offspring of the elite mare Lady Josephine (Mahmoud, Nasrullah, Royal Charger, but also Fair Trial, Tudor Minstrel and Aristophanes) out of the mare line 9c are completely missing. Due to the lack of this mare line, Blenheim (by Blandford) is also missing, who bred these mares to outstanding sires.
One also notices that the very popular Bay Ronald descendants are missing: neither Son in Law - Dark Ronald nor Hyperion - Gainsborough appear. This means that one of the important lines that are supposed to inherit jumping ability is missing.
And finally the sprinter component is missing, which is represented in most pedigrees by The Tetrarch. At the same time, there is no pure American blood like Black Toney and his descendants, who also pass on speed and precocity.
Roughly speaking, the pedigree is divided into two parts, a father with quite known sires and a mother with quite unknown sires, at least as far as the previous generations are concerned. If one analyzes more closely, one finds:
* an internationally known sire, Chief, descended from the stallion of the century Nearco!
* a German dam line going back to the German elite mare Waldrun!
* then another international stallion line: Cranach - Coronach - Hurry On
* a French stallion line, Goya - Tourbillon, which has also achieved international importance!
* then one of the best dam lines of thoroughbred breeding: Adargatis - Helene de Troie!
* then in the maternal part the important line of Tanerko - Tantième, but represented by a stallion who could not distinguish himself. This stallion, Calé, has an impeccable pedigree as his mother is a daughter of Nimbus out of a tourbillon mare.
* The sire of the 2nd dam belongs to the Hurry On sire line, but is totally unknown, just like his sire. This is where the great unknowns begin to gain a certain importance, because his mother's pedigree already presents some difficulties.
* Behind it you find Detvan, who was already mentioned above. Detvan belongs to the purely German stallion line of Graf Ferry.
* Finally, the 4th mother comes from Etalon Or, a Massine son, but otherwise this dam line is unknown.
So you really have to go into the previous generations to find well-known sires.
Inbred are not found in this pedigree; Line breeding consists of Nearco (4x5), Pharos (5x6x7), Hurry On (5x5), Tourbillon (5x5), Blandford (5x7x7). In addition, the following occur more frequently in the first 8 generations: Ksar, Sans Souci II, Alcantara II, Bruleur, Sardanapale, Sainfoin, Polymelus, Robert le Diable. The only mare that appears frequently is Scapa Flow, which is probably inevitable in every thoroughbred pedigree: she is the mother of both Pharos and Fairway (both of Phalaris, by the way, full brothers).
The stallion Nimbus is interesting because he comes from Kong. He has a very famous three-quarter brother: Gray Sovereign. The advantage of Nimbus is the father, as Nasrullah produced very good racing and breeding horses, but very often gave them his bad character. This is not the case with Nimbus. As already mentioned, both stallions have the same dam, but Nearco is Nimbus' sire and is the grandfather of Gray Sovereign.
Furthermore, the appearance of Hurry On can be described as very positive. Hurry On is known as the grandfather of Furioso xx and the older thoroughbred refiners of the German warmblood breed also carry Hurry On.
And finally tourbillon, also represented in line breeding. This stallion line is usually not absent in any pedigree. Tourbillon itself was an excellently constructed thoroughbred, his shoulder was particularly noticeable, but at the same time had bad legs, which never caused any major difficulties.
A close relative of Heraldry is Meteor xx, who leads Chief as and Goya - Tourbillon as the father of his mother's father.
Heraldry found blood connection both with the German-bred refiners as well as with those of international descent. If one examines the appearance of the important stallions, one finds:
Hurry On: He occurs frequently with: Bold Indian (4x - the line of the mother's father goes back to Hurry On), Condrieu (3x), Galant Vert (3x), Lauries Crusader, Salient (4x), Tin Rod.
He is also with the important French breeders Benroy, Furioso (out of the Hurry On sire line), Pot d'Or, Ultimate.
The most important other Holstein breeders with Hurry On in the pedigree are Arystokrat AA, Benvenuto, Nautilus, Maestose, Comefast, Grundyman, Königspark, Schampus, Parco, Rushing Water, Sir Shostakovich, Sunset Boulevard and Sunlight.
Tourbillon: He is often in the front generation of Arystokrat, Barnaul, Chromatic, Galant Vert (from the tourbillon sire line), King Milford, Sunset Boulevard and Underworld.
One of the above-average breeders of French sport horse breeding also goes back to tourbillon in the sire line: Turner; Laudanum and Night and Day also perform tourbillon.
In addition to Galant Vert, the tourbillon stallion line also includes: Casino Boy, Nevado, Julio Mariner and Schampus.
He also performs with: Anthony's Dream, Bold Indian, Deadly Nightshade, Diplomat, Exorbitant, Langata Express, Lauries Crusader, Maestose, Mytens, Oglio, Parco, Sir Dancer.
Sardanapale: Sardanapale is an old stallion who only appears far behind in the pedigrees today. For that reason alone it is interesting to list the stallions that have led him in the first 7 or 8 generations. He was especially known as a well above average mother's father. The best-known sires that lead Sardanapale are: Black Cock, Mayor, Masetto and Athenagoras from the German thoroughbred breed; Marsyas, Coaraze, Indus, Apelle, Indus, Goya from international thoroughbred breeding; and Fastnet, Hethersett, Prince Chevalier and Broker's Tip from the Anglo-American thoroughbred breed.
