Loro Piana Tomboy Most Powerful Showjumper Ever!
Loro Piana Tomboy and Rodrigo Pessoa
Loro Piana TomBoy VI was ridden by Rodrigo Pessoa in international showjumping competitions.
Notable for his tremendous power but unusual jumping style, which saw him loosely dangle his front legs while jumping, leading to him
jumping higher than normal to clear the obstacles.
Despite this Tomboy managed to clear the jumps as well or even better than his competitors.
Rodrigo Pessoa described his mount as a true battler, a horse that gave everything, and above all gave Brazil its first ever Olympic medal in showjumping.
When TomBoy was six or seven years old, he had an accident with his previous owner where he was startled by a vehicle and fell off a 2-3 meter bridge, injuring his front legs. Leaving one leg crooked as a result.
When Pessoa acquired him, he stated that TomBoy was recovering very well over the years.
When they began to jump, TomBoy could no longer tuck in his front legs to clear the obstacles. Subsequently, TomBoy over-jumped the obstacles letting his front feet hang.
Pessoa claimed it was a very strange way of jumping, but it was not a problem as Tomboy had amazing scope was very brave.

Right from the start Loro Piana TomBoy and Rodrigo Pessoa were a great team winning Grand Prix around the world which lead to their winning round at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, which won Brazil their first Olympic medal.
HIGHLIGHTS:
1995 Pan-Am Games-S Buenos Aires (ARG) they won Team Gold
1996 Olympic Games Olympic Games-S Atlanta GA (USA) - Won Team Bronze
1996 FEI World Cup™ Final CSI-W Final Geneva (SUI) - 4th Place
Also in 1996, they competed in the Calgary Alberta Masters six bar competition.
The most amazing thing I've ever seen in the equestrian world, was when he won the Alberta Power 6-Bar at Spruce Meadows.
He jumped 6'9" in the final round to win, and cleared it by a mile!
What makes it so incredible, is that in a 6-Bar, you only get TWO strides to the final jump.
At the time he held the North America 6-bar record.
Tomboy sadly passed away in October 2014 at the grand age of 31. R.I.P.
